Welcome to Heatherware
- Welcome to Heatherware
At Heatherware, I create fearlessly colourful, bold ceramics and décor designed to brighten your home, your garden, and your day.
I’m a self-taught artist who began painting flowerpots as a hobby in 1988 after moving from New Zealand to Cairns. What started as a creative outlet quickly grew into a market stall side business while I worked full time.
By 1996, art had become my full-time career. I launched Frantik Designs — a name inspired by the frantic pace at which I love to create. Over the years, I’ve owned two retail shops and designed an eclectic range of handcrafted pieces including chairs, tables, lamps, mirrors, clocks, painted tiles, papier-mâché creations, and upcycled furniture.
In 2007, I established a home studio and began producing gifts and souvenirs for shops across Australia. I became especially known for my hand-painted tile coasters and my wonderfully quirky cross-eyed emu designs.
Every piece I create is individually hand-painted by me. I never use stencils, stickers, decals, or digital enhancements — just paint, imagination, and a genuine love of creating.
In 2012, I was inspired to learn pottery, and I now produce my own wheel-thrown functional ceramics decorated in my signature colours and playful style.
I’ve always been drawn to 1950s pottery and Mid-Century Modern design, and that influence continues to shape my work today. This creative evolution inspired the name Heatherware — Pots with Flair.
Today, I work alongside my husband Adrian from our home studio in Townsville. You can find our work online, through selected stockists, directly from our studio outlet, and at local markets around Townsville on weekends.
